THE FIRST TIME WITH A RIFLe: Safety
Smallbore target rifle hooting is a very safe sport if everyone follows the basic safety rules for handling and using guns or rifles. When visiting a rifle range one of the things to be aware of is the range safety light. The safety light indicates if the firing range is in use. When the light is on do not enter the range.
There is a set of simple rules that must be followed at all times. New starters are not expected to know the rules off by heart as they will be accompanied at all times during their probationary period by an instructor. The rules are given here for reference and it is strongly recommend that they are read and any questions should be raised to the instructor at whichever club the reader attends.
Each club follows a set of standard safety rules and they may have their own rules in addition to the ones listed here. The basic rules are given below – follow these and shooting will be a safe and enjoyable experience. Fail to follow these rules and a shooter may be removed from the range and not allowed to shoot again at that club or any other in the same region.
